Refresh Yourself

As a sequel to the last post on Discipline, routines and habits, this post is about possible changes that can be brought about easily in our day to day life to fight boredom and blow an air of freshness .

These changes will reflect themselves as refreshing experiences. More than anything else, you may need to do this –

1) Get out of your comfort zone and do something that requires you to leave your cosy bed, air conditioned house or traffic free zone

2) Kick something away that you have been addicted to – something you have been doing very diligently for no good reason at all!

Here are a few things that you can try ~ ( Remember, you will need to act! )

  1. Let your motorbike/car have some rest and start walking to the places that are fairly close. Explore the areas around your house, office etc. You should know where you get a tasty coffee or where you can get a second hand magazine in your locality. If you are stuck with your vehicle all the time, you will have very little knowledge like this. Knowing little things like this will make your life a heaven in your small locality.
  2. Replace fast foods with some juice and fruits for a while. It’s going to feel great right from the day one, provided you bring home your favorite fruits, juices etc. Don’t restrict yourself to a limited shopping. You are going to change something – so walk an extra mile. Packed juices are okay – they are better than burgers anyways!
  3. Are you a chain smoker? I won’t ask you to quit smoking at once. I know that’s nearly impossible thing to do. Simply choose one or two hours in a day when you will allow yourself to enjoy life without smoking. You can be more creative by selecting specific situations. I, for example, stopped smoking after I had my meal. That was a great step towards completing quitting the dreadful habit.
  4. Been reading lately? Why not read a book this month! Ask your friends to recommend something, buy/borrow it and start reading when you are free. You can simply jump to your childhood comics if nothing else interests you right now!!
  5. Stop judging people. Stop judging anyone. As soon as you bring somebody into your head and start forming an essay (line by line) about him/her – catch yourself. Essay is all about judging that person. It hurts. It hurts you alone. So be wise and don’t do that.
  6. Question yourself, privately! Introspection will save you from great discomforts in long run. Many people cheat on others, act selfishly, foolishly and still keep telling themselves that they have done the right thing. A wise man would know if he had been foolish the other day. Even if he never discloses it, he will tell this to himself in the very least. A fool will fool himself as well.
  7. Spend time with elderly people. Be patient to listen to their viewpoints. Expect differences. Focus on exploring their youth.
  8. Sit up straight! Don’t bulge out your spine all the time – as if you have just finished a marathon.
  9. Ask your colleagues about their favourite music band, author, place etc. Then, find time to listen to that music band, read that book, visit that place … you would have achieved two probable goals. One – have a healthy time pass with a reason. Two – get actually close to your colleague. To do so, you will need to understand that everyone has their own favourites.  Once you start respecting others, it would be great fun to explore their likes.

  1. Truly refreshing dose of wise words I was so eagerly waiting to listen to.Sometimes boredom and stagnation can creep so deep into our life that we find it hard to get on track.Hope it will do a whole lot of good to me.Such topics should be discussed frequently and at regular intervals. As I think more than 80% people find their daily routines and thinking patterns to be dysfunctional.Such issues, I think should be given preference over serious
    but rather mundane ones.

So be it! We will be discussing it regularly. All I need is your participation :) These are the issues that touch our day to day life.. these are the issues that have never been looked upon so seriously by an individual but they mold the quotient of happiness and contentment in our life..
