Questions that claimed to ‘free my mind’

I went through a post which had a long list of interesting questions. Author claimed that these questions were the ‘RIGHT QUESTIONS’ and they would free my mind! They have no right answers, he says. Merely trying to answer them would solve the purpose. So I did. Try them out for yourself.

Ask the right questions..

Ask the right questions..

  1. How old would you be if you didn’t know how old you are? [ 17   I am an overgrown kid! ]
  2. Which is worse, failing or never trying? [I have failed a couple of times. Then, there are also things which I left untouched without trying them out. Not trying them out hurts me more. I also stand a chance to have lost an opportunity to learn something. In addition to that, a fear takes birth in my heart when I restrain myself from trying something I want to ]
  3. If life is so short, why do we do so many things we don’t like and like so many things we don’t do? [I don’t think life is too short. Have a sort of different realization - about our existence, so I worry a little about the end of this life or maybe I am too indifferent towards the end that is 4-5 decades away. However, I do wonder about me doing things I don’t really like. It’s just an impulse that drowns me, sometimes. I like the morning mist and love to watch sunrise. But I am lazy to wake up early and fear of cold trembles my mind. A conflicting situation is what seems to be the culprit. I am going to work on it. ]
  4. When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done? [Sometimes, yes. Sometimes, I may speak less as well. ]
  5. What is the one thing you’d most like to change about the world? [Myself.]
  6. If happiness was the national currency, what kind of work would make you rich? [Writing and Public Speaking.]
  7. Are you doing what you believe in, or are you settling for what you are doing? [ I am doing what I believe in. ]
  8. If the average human life span was 40 years, how would you live your life differently? [There would have been no difference. May be I would have married some nice young girl by now – to see my kids grow young before I die!!! ]
  9. To what degree have you actually controlled the course your life has taken? [Very Little. Things are just happening. ]
  10. Are you more worried about doing things right, or doing the right things? [ I was worried about doing the ‘right things’ all my life until recently when something happened and it changed to ‘doing things right’. That’s little funny but it’s true.  Doing ‘right things’ is about contemplating over something before doing it. ]
  11. You’re having lunch with three people you respect and admire.  They all start criticizing a close friend of yours, not knowing she is your friend.  The criticism is distasteful and unjustified.  What do you do? [Speak the truth – make a point, make it gently, directly and convince them of my friend’s goodness. I am sure I won’t need my power of ‘manipulation’ with people I respect and admire.  ]
  12. If you could offer a newborn child only one piece of advice, what would it be? [Dude! Use your own head whenever possible]
  13. Would you break the law to save a loved one? [ A million times ]
  14. Have you ever seen insanity where you later saw creativity? [Yes. I am a living example for myself to see, observe and wonder at! ]
  15. What’s something you know you do differently than most people? [Making choices. I choose what I like. Most people choose what most people think they should choose. ]
  16. How come the things that make you happy don’t make everyone happy? [That’s not completely true. I do things which make almost everyone happy. I understand it depends upon the way I do them. ]
  17. What one thing have you not done that you really want to do? What’s holding you back?  [Renounce everything and walk into the woods. World around me is holding me back. ]
  18. Are you holding onto something you need to let go of? [ Memories of a failed start-up ]
  19. Would you rather be a worried genius or a joyful simpleton? [Why don’t have a third choice – namely joyful genius!!  As such, out of these two, joyful simpleton would be great ]
  20. Why are you, you? [A great conundrum!]
  21. Have you been the kind of friend you want as a friend? [Yes, absolutely]
  22. Which is worse, when a good friend moves away, or losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you? [ Losing touch with a good friend who lives right near you ]
  23. What are you most grateful for? [ “I am I am I am” experience ]
  24. Is it possible to know the truth without challenging it first? [Yes. I don’t learn the truth always through doubt-investigate-contemplate-challenge process. Sometimes truth is too obvious ]
  25. Has your greatest fear ever come true? [ Yes]
  26. Do you remember that time 5 years ago when you were extremely upset?  Does it really matter now? [Not at all!]
  27. What is your happiest childhood memory?  What makes it so special? [We had half day at school because of snowfall – first jackpot. Then I got to know that my dad (then in army) was home after six months – second jackpot. As I entered inside, there was a brand new TV – second in the whole village – Third Jackpot. When I went to the kitchen, I learnt that our buff had delivered a baby buff – I ran to the cowshed to see the lil kid – Fourth Jackpot!! That was too much for a seven year old!! ]
  28. At what time in your recent past have you felt most passionate and alive? [When I made up my mind to write an article titled "Questions that claimed to ‘free my mind’ ".]
  29. If not now, then when? [Now! Now! Now! ]
  30. If you haven’t achieved it yet, what do you have to lose? [A few moments that will pass with sad, boring colours.]
  31. Have you ever been with someone, said nothing, and walked away feeling like you just had the best conversation ever? [Yes. Several times!  Spiritual connection, nothing romantic eh]
  32. Why do religions that support love cause so many wars? [ Cause those who pretend to be the custodians of religion are fools ]
  33. Is it possible to know, without a doubt, what is good and what is evil? [Nothing really is completely good or evil. Good and bad go side by side..... No matter what! Even when we breathe, there is something happening which will be tagged as evil in our perception! Good and evil are children of perception. Duality is their fundamental nature]
  34. If you just won a million dollars, would you quit your job? [One half of it, yes. Because I have been doing teaching and writing. I would like to cut short the teaching part! ]
  35. Would you rather have less work to do, or more work you actually enjoy doing? [ More work that I enjoy doing ]
  36. Do you feel like you’ve lived this day a hundred times before? [No! Not at all! No déjà vu while I am in my senses. Will need some pentane to have that feeling... lol ]
  37. When was the last time you marched into the dark with only the soft glow of an idea you strongly believed in? [2 years ago. It’s going on that way, since then!]
  38. If you knew that everyone you know was going to die tomorrow, who would you visit today? [No one! I am sure some apocalypse is coming true in that case. Better run away and save few others I might not be knowing J ]
  39. Would you be willing to reduce your life expectancy by 10 years to become extremely attractive or famous? [Why not! Question, I feel, will have more weightage as I grow old! Right now I feel I have sufficient, in fact, extra stock of age. So I can take my chances ]
  40. When is it time to stop calculating risk and rewards, and just go ahead and do what you know is right? [As soon as you know you are right!]
  41. If we learn from our mistakes, why are we always so afraid to make a mistake? [ Silly humans we are ]
  42. What would you do differently if you knew nobody would judge you? [I have left little scope for that. Already, I have insulated most of my life from external judgements. ]
  43. When was the last time you noticed the sound of your own breathing? [Last night.]
  44. What do you love?  Have any of your recent actions openly expressed this love? [Writing, travelling, eating (nowadays), sleeping, music, meditating etc. Yes, I am following my heart very diligently]
  45. In 5 years from now, will you remember what you did yesterday?  What about the day before that?  Or the day before that? [Nothing except a few key events. But those events will be remembered without date field]
  46. Decisions are being made right now.  The question is:  Are you making them for yourself, or are you letting others make them for you? [ I am making decisions myself and others are helping me with it ( cordially) ]

  2. thanks! Questions were good.. an honest attempt to answer these questions for oneself leads to a ‘chill’ kinda revelation.. something that we ourselves have been hiding deep inside our heads or always ignored while it was beautiful and right under our nose :)

Good set of questions. Few of them, we need to ask ourselves almost daily. :)
