We all have potentially impressive brains inside our heads. But that doesn’t mean that potentiality factor has manifested itself as great intelligent being. Even the ones with a brain capable of making great mathematical calculations, devising impressive marketing plans and laying out flawless operational plans writhe under the labyrinth of frustration and uncertainty. You can call them great computers with tons of viruses. Whenever someone is in doubt, they find respite in the words of someone they respect and trust. Trust factor is very important here. It depends, how well you trust someone! Trust has to be strong like an iron pillar if one has to benefit from the words of wise. Still, I feel, there is a fundamental need to process those wise words in your own head. Without this processing, your head is going to alienate those wise words in near future when the situations will change.
Trust as well, needs a foundation! Let us talk about a few examples that demonstrate the role of trust here. I have seen many people getting it other way round! From all that has been said above, they infer a meaning that they need not trust anyone in this world because they should use their own head! You cannot trust a man who comes walking towards you in a party and tells you not to go home alone tonight. The information, howsoever serious, needs to be scrutinized. If there is reasonable foundation, you can ‘trust’ the man and ‘information’, he is offering. Let’s assume that the man does not come walking but manifests its own body all of sudden and starts talking. That’s supernatural. You will instantly trust this man’s words – whether something concrete, plain philosophy or a future prediction! Don’t fight with your head compulsively.
Use your head – I mean brain – to investigate, ask and seek reasonable explanations as far as possible. According to the Vedas, it remains an ultimate objective for a man to free himself of his own mind. Let me tell you one thing, your mind is not going to let you go out freely without you being nice with it. “Fight against the mind and mind will fight against you” – some popular life coach has said that – and it’s every bit true! Leave your head unused when you swallow chunks of information and facts with flavors of right, wrong, good, better, worse etc and you will find yourself in utter doubt just the next moment. You will be asking yourself if you really trusted the words of that girl, that man or that book!! More you do so, you will be mistrusting your own thoughts – and that’s very very harmful you know. Eventually, “thoughts become things.”
The doubts, fears and apprehensions take birth as soon as the ‘piece of writing in a book’, ‘advice from a spiritual master’ or ‘volume of information spoken in a friendly conversation’ wages through the previous knowledge ( useful or junk, true or false, simple or complex – doesn’t matter) inside your head. In fact the previous knowledge – unorganized and invalidated – is responsible for the doubts and fears and apprehensions. For example, I used to scold myself for having a thought of actually verifying what a spiritual master was saying through a piece of writing or lecture. “That’s blasphemy” – my previous knowledge would say.
Doubt, the disease – a descendant of previous knowledge as well, had come into existence and I am only allowing it to grow and make me suffer some day. Definitely its wise to ‘use your head’ and deal with doubts and fears there and then!
Here are a few bitter consequences of such a practice:
- You have been reading loads of self help books but you don’t really see a positive change in your life!
- You attend various seminars by life coaches, spiritual masters but you are the same wo/man. You find their words mostly nonsense and irrelevant because you were lazy to cross check or analyze them for your own.Your heart wanted to accept them out of fear and your mind wanted to reject them out of lazyness! Such is the agony, you see.
- You are not able to trust your own thoughts when it comes to play great ‘decision making’ roles in your family, business and relationships. You start befalling yourself by having a doubt adjacent to every good idea you have in your head. That’s a consequence you face because you didn’t use your head and in the absence of a guide and steward, it remains grossly untrained.
- You watch GBs of videos on internet about living a positive , successful and abundant life but the very next moment the show is over, you are busy collecting ‘negative’ garbage inside your head. A statement or wise teaching is small and compact. You need to think around it, stretch it, relate it to other experiences etc. Let’s take this statement as an example – “Anger affects your judgment” (Godfather 3
). You should have a dozen corollaries around this statement. Then you will be able to really understand what it means. I won’t ask you to write it down on paper. Such things are mostly inexplicable to others – but to your own self – every little understanding is like a revelation – a chill.
Better use your own head. Make it a habit. Mind you, I didn’t ask you to stop listening to others. Watch TBs of videos about being positive. Attend as many seminars as you want. Read as many books as you like. Discuss as many things with your friends as possible. In the end, use your brain muscles, let them breathe the information, fact, knowledge you hear, read or talk about. Then your mind will be like trained horses and you can control it better.
