How to stay positive at work

It’s very easy to stay positive if you are wandering on beach with your spouse or teaching your little kid on how to swim. However, staying positive becomes a challenge for many people when they reach office. Office environment has several ingredients that affect the regular feeling of well-being you have outside. Behavior of your colleagues, senior officials and co-ordination with close associates are among the most important factors. No one is born with habits of positive thinking. Positive thinking is developed over a period of time with persistence and consistent self analysis. A closer look at various parameters can help you stay positive at work in situations challenging you paradigms.

A negative work environment will not only reduce your performance but also change your outlook on several other issues in your personal life. Today’s word defines success in terms of your relative position on the ladder of competition. So everyone at work fights to get ahead of each other. You can either choose to dodge bullets or wear armor. Dodging bullets won’t help much because you will be hit some day or other. Bulletproof armor will require you to alter your thinking, behavior and attitude.

An overhaul in thinking habits can be achieved by observing your own thoughts and actions. Write a declaration that you will be a different person tomorrow. A logical approach breaks apart the mental knots in almost all situations. Pay attention to your inner chatter. Whether your day is going to be wonderful or dreadful tomorrow, either of them is uncertain. You can manage your inner chatter to align yourself towards a more positive tomorrow and relieve yourself in the present moment.  Exercise your power to choose and make choices that you like. Set things right by keeping a clear eye on your goal to stay calm and positive at work.

Behavioral changes can be achieved through discipline and self assessment. In almost all kinds of work environments, there exist stimuli provoking negative feelings. Your part of job is to control your reaction to such stimuli which otherwise leave you with tons of anxiety. For example, it would be of little help to run away from events, programs and meetings where you have to face people you despise. Instead, you need to work on your thoughts to save yourself from being judgmental and adopt a realistic approach to meet the professional goals. Even a mild smile can change the office environment around you. Sprinkle the fragrance of goodness and gratitude over negative gossips and criticisms around the corner.

You can never have a bad day at work with positive attitude. Attitude changes occur from inside out. Stay away from futile blame games and you will easily realize that you are responsible for what you are. Your mission to have a fulfilling life at work will soon be a reality if you nurture positive values and stick to them. To have an attitude change to achieve a desired end to a prosperous work life is to exercise control over your own self.

  1. As far as, I understand for staying positive at work: first one needs to know the area/limits of one’s job. Sometimes it also happen, in making good relations – people starts interfering in others area. First thing to know the area of one’s own job i.e., how far one can go in making relations with seniors, peers ans subordinates. After acknowledging the areas, responsibilities and freedom in one’s job, the next step comes for exploring relations.

Different stimuli provoke different actions/reactions in different people; for making relations…gradual steps need to be taken, and the results out of each step should be checked, if result is positive then go ahead, otherwise change the way of your step.
